Experience

I am interested in tutoring because I want to have a meaningful impact on how students think and perform academically. I will not only help students achieve the results they want, but encourage them to appreciate what they are learning and develop lifelong skills such as problem solving and critical thinking. Having the opportunity to improve overall student achievement and satisfaction can be tied to my career goal in becoming a pharmacist because of the responsibility of helping patients understand the effects of the medications and prescriptions they take, which is important in maintaining and improving their health. I especially would like to tutor for organic chemistry because of the challenges and benefits it can bring to a student. I believe that every student is capable of overcoming their anxiety and excelling in difficult or work-intensive subjects regardless of their current situations or circumstances. In addition to helping students develop self-motivation and confidence, I will strive to be a mentor that students can relate to because I have had similar experiences where I was faced with struggles in learning and having to refine my study habits. I am currently involved in Pre-Pharmacy Society (PPS) and Global Medical Training (GMT) on campus. I will be part of a medical trip to Nicaragua with GMT this upcoming September to help provide free healthcare services to underprivileged communities in a third world country. I volunteer at a private pharmacy and I do research in a pharmacology/electrophysiology lab where I prepare novel compounds and screen their effects on ion channel functioning.
