I graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA where I simultaneously earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics. I maintained a 4.0 GPA and received the Sherwood Scholarship, an award honoring one student out of the entire graduating class with the highest achievement in Mathematics.
Experience
While at UCLA I was not only a student, but had the opportunity to teach for several years as well. I worked as an instructor in the Computer/Math lab where I helped students understand and solve mathematical problems. Because of my excellent ability to teach and my impressive understanding of high level math, I was selected to develop and teach a course to motivate and challenge college freshmen who demonstrated great academic promise in Mathematics. I also have a strong ability to teach test taking strategies. I acquired these skills during my 8 years working as a professional actuary, a job that requires a strong math background. As an actuary, I had to meet rigorous professional educational standards by passing a series of exams. It was during this time that I learned the art of test-taking and despite the test’s 80% failure rate, I successfully passed 5 exams. I am now the mother of two wonderful kids and am once again pursuing my passion of teaching math. Mathematics is a fascinating subject of study, but without proper instruction it can be frustrating for students. I can help you succeed in math by: Encouraging a positive attitude toward learning Improving basic skills, study habits and test taking strategies Increasing confidence and mathematical ability Teaching formulas and problem solving techniques I specialize in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, pre-calculus, calculus, and SAT.
