- Taking AP English as a senior in high school honed my writing skills. I worked with a brilliant teacher from Princeton University, and he gave us so many skills: from writing sentencing perfectly, to using tenses correctly, searching for metaphors and symbols... He gave us a very sturdy frame to work with. After his class, I noticed that the way I consume media (whether it be movies or books) had drastically changed! AP English really gave me an eye and ear on how to spot what the author is trying to convey; these skills can also be used to detect flaws in one's own writing! -- I want to be a tutor because I believe that the ability to communicate effectively and concisely is extremely important. I am a very patient person, I have younger cousins and enjoy working with children. People have told me that my voice is also very clear and easy to understand. I don't give up easily, I like to help students as much as possible and I encourage them to ask questions. -- Whether someone needs help with English pronunciations, spelling, grammar, essay writing, other styles of writing: I am always ready and willing to help! -- I love Literature and Writing, and I want to help foster a love of language in others, too. - I have not formally tutored, but I have tutored family members, friends, and peers since middle school. (2002--present day) --- Professors commend my essay writing skills; I always receive top marks. --- Peers and professors alike commend my ability to edit essays. I really do enjoy editing essays: Some writers get dismayed, but when I edit essays I highlight the strong points, not only areas that need improvement. - Classes: Numerous lower & upper division Literature courses, 2 Creative Writing Classes, I also belonged to poetry and prose writing clubs, took Women's Studies, Sociology-- all these classes enhanced my writing skills in the form of: research papers, group writing, writing zines, writing online zines, blogging, amongst other forms. - I believe it also helps that I can speak a bit of Spanish and Arabic, and conversational Urdu. Knowing multiple languages enhances my understanding of other ones, and allows me to draw correlations between languages and words.
