Hello, my name is Alex. I double majored in Managerial Economics and Statistics at UCDavis. My first experience tutoring was during my freshman year of college, helping a student out in Intro to Microeconomics. She was struggling to pass the class, and I decided to review the material by tutoring her. With a couple tutoring sessions, she ends up getting a B on the final exam and passed the class.
Experience
Then, during my 2nd and 3rd years in college, I taught college athletes a variety of different Economics and Statistics courses like Intermediate to Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, and Statistics in Business. Here, I gathered more tutoring experience and learned about my tutoring style. For example, I write additional notes for the student to take with them after the tutoring session. During my 4th year in college, I started conducting group tutoring sessions, because students from my community service fraternity were struggling with Statistics in Biology. I was able to get onto the Facebook page of the Statistics in Biology class to get more people interested in coming to these sessions. At one session, twenty people squeezed into a small tutoring room, because so many people were struggling with the basics of R, a statistics computer programming language.
